How can you support us?

Lusk Community First Responders is a volunteer initiative.  Our aim is to have several volunteers available to attend emergency calls in our area. 


All equipment is purchased by our group with the generous donations we receive from the public and local businesses.  In order to provide this live saving service in our community we need your help. 


There are many setup and running costs involved in providing this lifesaving service in our community and our group is 100% responsible for this.  All funds raised will go directly towards these costs, such as:


  • Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
  • AED Pads/Batteries/Cabinets
  • First Aid Supplies
  • Training Aids and Equipment
  • Equipment Bags and uniform

We welcome new volunteers.  No medical experience is required as training will be provided.  To find out more email us and a member of our team will be in touch.

Donate

Our aim is to equip multiple teams of volunteers so we can provide better coverage throughout Lusk.  To do this we must purchase equipment such as AEDs, replacement pads and training  aids.  Your donations no matter how big or small are greatly appreciated and go directly into the set up and maintenance of Lusk Community First Responders.  Our charity application is currently in progress.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for us in the @tescoirl Community Fund in Rush over the summer. We’re delighted to have received our funding yesterday! This funding will go long way in helping us with the ongoing costs of running our group and maintaining our equipment. Thank you @tescoirl and our local communities for your support.
Over the next week, organisations all over Ireland and the rest of the world will be participating in events to mark ⚡️World Restart a Heart Day⚡️. To kick off this week, volunteers from Lusk Community First Responders will be getting out and about to encourage our community to learn CPR and how to use and AED. On Saturday 12th October, we will be outside Skinny Batch in Lusk from 10am-2pm. Please drop over and say hi, talk to us about what we do and we can give you a demo on CPR and AED use. People of Lusk and surrounding areas, we need your help!! We are searching for unregistered AEDs. Do you know of any AEDs in workplaces/offices/clubs in our locality? Do you know that these AEDs can be registered with the National Ambulance Service? The reason for registering an AED is that if someone suffers a sudden cardiac arrest, the emergency services operator will advise the caller of the nearest registered AED. The more AEDs we have registered, the nearer you are to a working AED in an emergency. The best AED is the nearest AED. Please let us know if you have access to or you know of an AED and we will help you to get it registered. We can help perform regular checks to ensure it’s always ready in an emergency. It doesn’t have to be stored in a cabinet outside the building either, some AEDs are available during specific opening times. Get in touch with us to find out more about it. ⚡️New Public Access AED for Lusk ⚡️ @roundtowersluskgaa with support of @fingalcountycouncil have installed a new public access AED at their clubhouse. This AED is registered with the National Ambulance Service and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for the community. The code is C159X. The code can also be provided by the emergency services after calling 999/112. Thank you @roundtowersluskgaa, Aine and Paula from @luskcfr are joined by Naoise and Andy from @roundtowersluskgaa to launch the AED. ❤️It’s September and the beginning of Irish Heart month ❤️ An initiative of the Irish Heart Foundation (I.H.F.), the month-long dedication raises awareness about our heart and its health. @luskcfr are continuing to build on our training and getting experience of attending calls Lusk and the surrounding areas. Our members have been training as IHF and PHECC trainers, this means that we will soon be able to hold training sessions in the community to #learncpr. We often refer to the Chain of Survival but what does it mean? The Chain of Survival identifies a sequence of six critical actions that increase survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest and other life-threatening emergencies, such as heart attack, stroke, and foreign body airway obstruction. It’s important to talk to children about what they should do in an emergency 🚨. It’s surprising how many people (not just kids) think that you call 911 in an emergency. Here are 2 of our colouring sheets from the Lusk Summer Festival, some parents brought these home for their kids to colour but also to display it on the fridge or the wall to remind their kids what to do in an emergency. Teaching your kids their Eircode is also very important.

A question we get asked a lot is “how do I contact Lusk CFR in an emergency?” ….. the short answer is you don’t. In an emergency, call 999 or 112 and the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) will send our team a text alert with the address and Eircode of the emergency. CFR teams are alerted to chest pain, choking, stroke or cardiac arrest emergencies.
@luskcfr have been live for 1 month and during this time our team has responded to 10 calls. These calls have included incidents of stroke, chest pain and cardiac arrest. ⏱️Countdown to go live. Tonight’s training focused on the safety of our volunteers and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and what situations the equipment should be used in. We are very fortunate to have some highly experienced healthcare professionals as part of our group who took us through the procedure and we all practiced donning and doffing PPE. 😷

Exciting news!! You may already know that there are some AEDs available in Lusk but not 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is about to change. This cabinet has been donated to Lusk Community Council and will be mounted outside The Cottage Community Centre in the square in Lusk. These cabinets protect the AED from outside weather conditions and can be accessed by code provided by emergency services by dialling 999 or 112. We’re sure that you’ll agree that this is a huge benefit for the community.
